The use of tidal modelling allows for forecasts to be made well in advance of severe weather events. Whilst tidal phenomena are certainly not the only causative factors in the development of hurricanes, it is more than plausible that they provide the trigger for the release of energy that is required for the development of tropical revolving storms.

The advantage of using correlation between tidal events and weather disturbances lies in the predictability of tidal activity. Although tides are influenced by numerous variables which are hard to predict, such as ocean current activity, in a broad sense it is possible to predict tides, both in terms of time and place, well in advance. It is this predictability that allows for the long range nature of the forecasts provided on this site.
